Working with producer Mike Viola they recorded the LP live to tape\, playing and singing from opposite sides of a single microph one.
\nJoin us for a live\, intimate conversation where Santelli tal ks to the duo about their friendship\, the fun they had together in the ma king of this album\, and the poignant story behind its opening track\, “Po or Lost Souls.” Bird and Mathus will also share some of their music in a p re-recorded video they made just for American Strings.

Mississippi John Hurt style melodic blues of “Matter of Time” and “Goin on

Traditio nal music is not static\; it shifts with the times\, uncovering new meanin gs in old words\, new ways of talking about the communal pathways that led us to where we are today. For master musicians Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves\, traditional banjo and fiddle music is a way to interpret our uncertain times\, to draw artistic inspiration and power from the sources of meaning in their lives. History\, family\, literature\, live performan ce\, and environmental instability all manifest in the sounds\, feelings\, and sensations that permeate their music. Their 2022 sophomore album\, Hu rricane Clarice is a direct infusion of centuries of matrilineal folk wisd om\, a fiery breath of apocalyptic energy.
\nAllison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves are both l eaders in the young generation of roots musicians\, de Groot being known f or intricate clawhammer banjo work with Bruce Molsky\, and Hargreaves brin ging powerhouse fiddling to the stage with Laurie Lewis and David Rawlings in addition to teaching bluegrass fiddle at UNC-Chapel Hill. Their first self-titled album released in 2019 garnered attention from CBC Q\, Paste M agazine and Rolling Stone Country\, earning the duo the Independent Music Awards “Best Bluegrass Album” and a nomination from IBMA for “Best Liner N otes of the Year.” The duo has been booked at festivals and venues such as Newport Folk Festival\, Savannah Music Festival\, Winnipeg Folk Festival\ , the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh\, NC\, and Red Wing Roots Music Fest ival. Allison de Groot & Tatiana Hargreaves create a sound that is adventu rous\, masterful\, and original\, as they expand on the eccentricities of old songs\, while never losing sight of what makes them endure.

\n“We want to be the ba nd who reminds the world how important a good gig can be to our sanity aft er what we’ve all been through” says Roberts.
\nThe Young Dubliners have released nine albums to date. The set on the upcoming dates will draw from all their albums and include unreleased new material.
\nIn rec ent years the Young Dubs have appeared twice on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live\, had songs featured in TV shows (Sons Of Anarchy\, Human Target) and toured extensively as a headliner and as the opener for such a diverse list of a rtists as Collective Soul\, Jethro Tull\, Johnny Lang\, Los Lobos\, Chris Isaak and many more.
\nAlthough the Young Dubliners sound is most co mmonly called ‘Celtic Rock’\, that label can often be misleading. The Iris h influence is certainly there\, but it’s not the only influence that burs ts through on their albums or live shows. After all\, several of the band members have no Irish roots of any kind. “That was always the idea”\, expl ains Roberts “The sound was intended to be a hybrid because we all come fr om different backgrounds. Even though I am from Ireland\, a lot of the mus ic I listened to growing up wasn’t Irish at all\, but when I got here\, I got homesick and developed a new appreciation for Irish Music. In truth th e Celtic riffs can just as easily come from the American band members. Eve ryone writes now so you never know what you’ll end up with”
\n“Their sound defies categorization. The Young Dubliners can be seen as Ireland’s answer to Los Lobos\, with a similar combination of tradition al folk music\, raucous electric rock\, and forward-thinking experimentati on.” –Allmusic.com

Kalos’ new album\, Headland\, (set for release in Spring 2023) does not shy away from anything in favor of a certain directi on. Rather\, it is a body of music that\, even if sometimes in the abstrac t\, creates an emotional narrative. The name Headland\, which refers to a point where land meets sea\, is representative of the exploratory space Ka los seeks in its arrangements and live performances. All of the various el ements at play gather together into a collective mood\, creating an enviro nment of Kalos’ design and a memorable live music experience. As a critic for the UK’s Folkwords wrote: “There s a certain spontaneity at work as th e three musicians alternately contest and duel\, combine and coalesce to b ring their talents together.” More information on the trio can be found on its website.

Choro is a Brazilian music s tyle whose parents were Portuguese harmonies and African rhythms. In turn and in time\, choro gave birth to other Brazilian forms like samba and bos sa. Choro tunes are lively and lovely\, traditionally played in a small en semble. In that tradition\, CnC is a quartet of 7-string guitar\, 10-strin g bandolim\, clarinet\, and a hand drum called the pandeiro. We supplement the choro repertoire with songs from related Brazilian styles\, sung in P ortuguese. The Arts Center is a delightful small venue\, the perfect setti ng for an intimate concert of this very fun music.

\nthan thirty years\, Roy’s songs have been heard on HBO and Show
time\, and his videos have
\ngarnered hundreds of millions of views.
Roy co-writes these songs with his wife Melanie Harby. Their song parody <
a href='https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkU1ob_lHCw'>“Vote Him Away (The L

Tom Lehrer himself says\, “I congratulate Roy Zimmerman on reint roducing literacy to comedy songs. And the rhymes actually rhyme\, they don’t just ‘rhyne.'”
\n< span style='color: #000000\;'>Joni Mitchell says\, “Roy’s lyrics move beyond poetry and achieve perfection.”
\nHe spent the Comedy Boom years of the Eighties doing stand -up in San Francisco\, sharing stages with George Carlin\, Bill Maher\, Ka te Clinton\, Dennis Miller and many others. He wrote all the material for his funny folk music quartet The Foremen\, recording two albums for Warner /Reprise Records. He’s done several shows with The Pixies’ Frank Black\, s wapping songs in a solo acoustic setting.
\n“Roy Zimmerman simultaneously inspires me and makes me laugh my ass off\,” says comedian/author Paul Krassner.
\nZimmerman tours almost constantly\, taking his funny songs about fracking\, creationism\, marijuana laws\, governmen t shutdown\, same-sex marriage\, guns\, taxes and abstinence across the co untry\, often playing in some of the least Progressive places in America f or the most Progressive people there – the “Blue Dots” he calls them. So t his is his “Blue Dot Tour”. “I get accused of preaching to the converted\, ” he says\, “but I don’t think of it that way. I think of it as entertaini ng the troops.”
\nThe world is full of funny songs\, but Zimmerman’s hilarious\, rhyme-intensive origina ls are also incisive calls to action\, smart\, savvy and undeniable. The “ Blue Dot Tour” is ninety minutes of these songs – funny songs like “The Fa ucet’s on Fire!” and “I Want a Marriage Like They Had In the Bible\,” hear tfelt songs like “Hope\, Struggle and Change” and “I Approve This Message. ”
\nIn thirteen albums over tw enty years\, Roy has brought the sting of satire to the struggle for Peace and Social Justice. His songs have been heard on HBO and Showtime. He has recorded for Warner/Reprise Records. He’s been profiled on NPR’s “All Thi ngs Considered.” Zimmerman’s YouTube videos have amassed over seven millio n views\, and he’s a featured blogger for the Huffington Post.
\nSing Out! Magazine writes\, “Zimmerman is a guy on the left skewering folks on the right with rapier-sharp lyric s … underneath the caustic satire is a man who is surprisingly optimistic. ”
