Elixir blends driving fiddle and guitar with the rich texture and rhythmic excitement o f a full horn section\, deftly weaving brassy riffs and daring solos in an d out of traditional Irish\, French Canadian and New England tunes. Elegan t melodies evolve into raucous dixieland horn riffs\; transcendent harmoni es\, playful improvisations\, and rock\, swing and reggae-inspired rhythms weave in and out of traditional and original Irish\, French Canadian and New England tunes.

\nAlex Sturbaum and Brian Lindsay display a musical fluency that comes from a decade of playing together at contra dances\, concert halls\, jam sessi ons\, festivals\, bars\, and living rooms all across the continent. Nils Fredland has been calling dances with admirable skill and infectious energy since 2000. Respected for his expertise as a teacher and caller\, sensitive lead ership\, and generosity\, Nils is one of the busiest and most sought-after callers in the business. He draws on a large and varied repertoire of dan ces\, presenting material from centuries-old “chestnuts” to cutting-edge c ontemporary choreography.
\nNils is also known for breathing new lif e into traditional singing squares\, and he has co-authored two books on t he topic with master callers. Nils studied classical trombone at Indiana U niversity\, and has played his horn in ensembles ranging from symphony orc hestras to ska bands. In Elixir Nils brings together his myriad talents in one thrilling package. Nils also works as the American Dance Publications Coordinator at the Country Dance and Song Society.
\nJacqui Grennan is a contra dance c aller\, choreographer\, and dance organizer in the Los Angeles contra danc e scene.
\nA fixture in the Los Angeles contra dance commun ity since 2010\, Jacqui currently calls at contra dances around the nation and in her home community of Los Angeles\, CA. Jacqui produced and organi zed the 3rd Saturday contra dance series held at the Woman’s Club of South Pasadena\, CA\, from 2014 to 2016.

A beautiful setting on the Oregon Coast. A pristine\, sheltered beach\, tidepools galore\, wildlife in the water\, woods\, and air\, hike s that lead to superb vistas up and down the coast. It’s a weekend at the beach\, with music and friends old and new. It’s always sunny at Westwin d\, AND it almost always rains. Which is to say\, any weather can happen.
\nA growing\, family friendly community. More than a fourth of tho se who attend the Westwind Weekend are young people. Kids bring their fri ends. They dig in the sand\, play Frisbee\, hike\, play cards\, dance\, p lay music\, drink hot cocoa\, help out\, hang out\, and build lasting memo ries.
\nNon-stop music jams. At any moment you’ll find swing favorites on the front porch\, old-time in the shed\, and Irish /contra tunes in the kitchen. Some of the finest musicians in the Willame tte Valley come to Westwind and are joined by folks just learning to play and everyone in between.
\nContra dancing and more. Friday and Saturday evenings feature the Westwind All Star Orchestra pla ying tunes\, and dance programming that’s aimed at all ages and abilities. Expect family dances\, contras and squares\, and a set of Scandinavian fa vorites. Also find musicians jamming and swing or zydeco dancing underway outside the main hall.
\nCamper-led workshops. Gum boot dancing\, daisy chain squares\, swing chords\, beach talk\, favorite folk songs: come with your special talent to share or learn something you’ ve never heard of before. Sunday morning expect time for singing the gospe l of our non-denominational love of community.
\nA Saturday camper concert. Enjoy listening to the crazy\, creative\, and sub lime as your fellow campers perform\, or put together your own high or low art performance and step up onto the whale bone stage.

Frannie Marr\, from south ern California\, began contra dancing in 1998 when she went looking for a new form of dance to bring back to her elementary school. She quickly fel l in love with the music and dance scene and became an organizer as well a s a caller. Frannie is known for her excellent choices of wonderful dance s\, and her clear precise walkthroughs which make her easy to understand a nd follow. Can you tell she was a kindergarten teacher? Frannie’s joy of dance is so present in her exuberant calling you’ll think you’re at a dan ce party. Which is exactly where you’ll be when you arrive in Corvallis.< /p>\n
Julian Blechner has a passion for contra dance and is excited to share it with you! He is a seasoned contra and set dance caller based in Western Massachusetts. Since 2011\, he’s called dan ces of all sizes\, from big festival and camp stages\, to series from Main e to the Mid-Atlantic. Julian is excited to return to the West Coast to ca ll! He loves calling for all skill levels. He brings a cheerful\, friendly attitude with clear\, concise teaching and prompting. Julian has written dozens of dances\, and combines this expertise with his love of dancing to provide a joyful flair to dances!

Best Cel
lar is held on the last Friday of each month of the school year. This multi-instrumental trio of sister
s touring from Brazil are a virtuosic wonder to behold. “Choro das 3” is f
rom São Paulo\, Brazil\, and are highly regarded as some of the best choro
musicians in the world. (Choro is an enormously appealing lively or roman
tic musical style that originated in Brazil over 100 years ago and is now
popular internationally.) In Brazil\, this group has been featured on nati
onal television\, played for the president\, and played for huge audiences
at national festivals. They have legions of fans and followers all over t
he world and when you see and hear them it will be easy to understand why.
They are traveling the US in their motorhome and you can see all their ad
ventures on their website. Or chec
k out this video of the two youngest sisters here. 6PM concert at 5pm gather. We are hoping to have it
on the lawn stage as a picnic show if the weather agrees. If it’s not a w
arm and dry day we will have it indoors either here or at the hall. We wil

riends are on a mission to serve up great music. Don’t we all get crushes
on songs? Great songs never die but they sure could get played more! The S
ongtenders do just that–they echo songs from the past with sweet harmony a
nd hearty respect. Singer Melanie Reid and piano player Evelyn Idzerda sta
rted The Songtenders after an epic late-night jam. The music that resulted
made them realize their chemistry is perfectly aligned for giving service
to songs they love. Later\, to even better serve those songs\, they were
joined by Luke Painter on electric guitar\, Barbara Barry-Doyle on stand u
p bass\, and George Beekman on percussion. It’s always a treat when the So
ngtenders serve up their fun musical nostalgia! Laurie Childers\, Joe Casprowiak\, RiverRocks plays some of Laurie’s originals and a broad range of sweet c

Jim Lynch is a singer/guitarist whose music reflects his passion for blues\, country\, old stan
dards\, and folk-inspired Ameri
cana. His set will include an eclectic variety of both well-known songs an
d hidden gems in these genres. T
he name is Brazilian and means “choro in the kitchen.” And they\, in fact\
, practice in the kitchen. CnC plays a Brazilian music style known as Cho
ro\, whose character ranges from fun to sweet. The quartet has clarinet (B
ill Pfender)\, mandolin (John Bliss)\, 7-string guitar (Spencer Doidge)\,
pandeiro (hand drum) and vocals (Kimberly Cullen). Choro has a long histor
y as an urban popular music in Brazil\, and has become better known around
the world in the last few decades. <
