There has been International Dancing in Corvallis for many years. In the 60’s the group started to call themselves the Hoolyehs.
The Hoolyehs sponsor three types of folk dance activities: regular Sunday night dances, an annual reunion dance in the spring, and occasional dances with visiting live bands.
The Hoolyehs now meet the first and third Sundays of every month at the First Congregational Church from 7 pm to 9 pm. The first Sunday of every month has a Balkan dance emphasis and the third has an Israeli dance emphasis.
Early in the evening some simple dances are taught. The rest of the evening is open to a wide variety of dances from couple dances, to line and circle dances.
Cost: $4 non CFS members, $3 CFS members and $2 for children
Location: FCC Gatton Hall (First Congregational Church)
4515 West Hills Road, Corvallis, Oregon
Live in Albany? There is International Folkdancing in Albany that meets on Tuesday nights from 7:15-9:15 pm at a dance studio near West Albany High School. Each week has request dancing and usually some teaching or reviewing mixed in. New dancers are welcome and encouraged! We mainly do non-couple dances, so partners are not required.

Kafana Klub plays at the Hoolyeh Sunday Folkdance February 5, 2017, 7 to 9 pm
First Congregational Church, 4515 SW West Hills Road, Corvallis
Kafana Klub plays an exotic and spirited blend of dance music from the Balkans and beyond. Sublime vocals and sizzling instrumentals stir the feet as well as the soul.
Review by Ryan Rudnansky writing for Oregon Music News (2010): “Kafana Klub, a Balkan sextet, … spanning the globe musically, playing songs from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Romania and Poland. Dennis Godfrey (gudulka, tambura) and Brent Geary-electrifying the audience with his furious violin playing- led the group, with Kathy Fors on accordion, Peter Whitmore on electric bass, and Maria Noel and Jill Poris complementing the music beautifully with their vocals. People danced and clapped amid shouts of “more accordion!” with Godfrey jumping up and down on the stage. At one point the “crowd snake” weaved up the venue’s railing to the back by the bar then came back down on the other side to the stage, met with cheers. The band exited the stage amid grand applause.”
Brent Geary, violin; Kathy Fors, accordion; Cameron Edens, bass; Maria Noel, percussion, vocals; Jill Poris, tambura, cello, hammered dulcimer, vocals; Dennis Godfrey, gulduka
