Choro das 3 – Choro music from Brazil @ CedarHouse (see website for address)
Apr 23 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Choro Das 3Choro das 3

This multi-instrumental trio of sisters touring from Brazil are a virtuosic wonder to behold. “Choro das 3” is from São Paulo, Brazil, and are highly regarded as some of the best choro musicians in the world. (Choro is an enormously appealing lively or romantic musical style that originated in Brazil over 100 years ago and is now popular internationally.) In Brazil, this group has been featured on national television, played for the president, and played for huge audiences at national festivals. They have legions of fans and followers all over the world and when you see and hear them it will be easy to understand why. They are traveling the US in their motorhome and you can see all their adventures on their website. Or check out this video of the two youngest sisters here.

6PM concert at 5pm gather. We are hoping to have it on the lawn stage as a picnic show if the weather agrees. If it’s not a warm and dry day we will have it indoors either here or at the hall. We will make that determination a few days before based on projections. Donation is $20 or $25 per person. Email to make your reservation

A house concert is an excellent place to hear and meet great musicians in a very intimate setting.

COVID-19 Policy

Updated 2023-06-13

These policies are created by an informal Hoolyeh Live Dance Committee and are approved by the Corvallis Folklore Society. They are intended to keep our community and dancers as safe, healthy, and happy as possible.

Folk dancing involves physical exertion and close contact with many people and is therefore associated with greater risk of viral transmission than other common activities. To protect our community as much as possible, Hoolyeh folk dances will have the following precautions in place until further notice, which meet and may exceed mandated COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Please note: People at higher risk of severe illness from the COVID-19 virus, or who are in regular contact with someone at higher risk, including young children and other unvaccinated people, should not attend folk dancing at this time.

All attendees are required to:

  1. Provide an email address for contact tracing if needed (gathered at dancing).
  2. Be mindful of others’ variable comfort levels, especially with respect to personal space and level of touch.
  3. Feel comfortable wearing a mask if that is their personal choice.
  4. Stay home if you experience any illness symptoms.

Additional precautions will include:

  • An attendance capacity of 20-25 dancers
  • Unscented hand sanitizer available at the dance
  • Ventilation (open doors and windows)
  • Attendees should wash hands regularly
  • Letting Dana know if you have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms after the dance or in the following week

Current fees are $5 per person if not CFS member, $4 for CFS member, 18 and under $2.

7:30 The Songtenders

Meet the Songtenders! These collaborators and longtime friends are on a mission to serve up great music. Don’t we all get crushes on songs? Great songs never die but they sure could get played more! The Songtenders do just that–they echo songs from the past with sweet harmony and hearty respect. Singer Melanie Reid and piano player Evelyn Idzerda started The Songtenders after an epic late-night jam. The music that resulted made them realize their chemistry is perfectly aligned for giving service to songs they love. Later, to even better serve those songs, they were joined by Luke Painter on electric guitar, Barbara Barry-Doyle on stand up bass, and George Beekman on percussion. It’s always a treat when the Songtenders serve up their fun musical nostalgia!

River Rocks8:30 River Rocks

Michael Everett, Tracy Daugherty,
Bill Veley

RiverRocks plays some of Laurie’s originals and a broad range of sweet covers.  We like lyrics that matter, that uplift, that tell a good story, that make us laugh or cry, that prompt us to get up and dance.  You might even sing along!

Best Cellar is held on the last Friday of each month of the school year.
Admission is pay-what-you-will, with a minimum of 2 dollars. Kids are free and welcome.
Coffee, tea, and gluten free cookies are fifty cents each.
Masks are encouraged but not required.
This month we will be in the sanctuary through the main entrance on Monroe.

House Concert – Countercurrent @ Private home in Corvallis
May 19 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

CountercurrentCountercurrent

Countercurrent is an acoustic folk music duo based in Olympia, Washington, composed of Alex Sturbaum and Brian Lindsay. They have achieved nationwide acclaim for their high-energy style, which draws on deep traditional roots from Ireland and North America while incorporating new influences to create a sound that is at once unique and timeless. Alex’s driving guitar and gifted songwriting, Brian’s lyrical fiddle and rock-solid foot percussion, and the duo’s lively interplay, tight vocal harmonies, and unstoppable groove make a Countercurrent performance an event unlike any other. Wherever they go, the question remains the same: “How does that much sound come out of just two people?”

For this special fundraiser concert, they will be joined by renowned New England fiddler Cedar Stanistreet for twin fiddle harmonies and driving dance tunes that can’t be beat! Countercurrent has a huge following among Corvallis contra dancers. This house concert provides a rare opportunity to hear the full breadth of their musicianship in an intimate, acoustic setting.

Tickets will go on sale April 14 at https://www.corvalliscelticfestival.org/upcoming-events/
