Contra dance is returning to a regular schedule in Corvallis this fall! The dance will start at 7:00 PM with a newcomer’s lesson and community meetup, helpful for all dancers. Following the lesson will be dancing from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM. No partner necessary. Dance calling and role terms will be Larks & Robins. The cost is $12 – $20 sliding scale.

Because of the Covid-19 situation:

  • Online pre-registration is no longer required, but registration/check-in will be required at the door.
  • We will still be requiring all attendees to provide proof of up-to-date vaccination (including at least one booster if eligible), and to wear a well-fitted face mask.
  • All attendees must sign a one-time CFS contra dance waiver at the door before their first 2022 contra dance, and a waiver for the use of Gatton Hall before each dance. Please read the waivers here before you arrive in order to speed up the registration process.

Thank you for helping to keep our dance community safely dancing! For more information on attendance requirements and other precautions, please see our recently updated COVID-19 policy here.

Carr Family BandCarr Family Band

Kevin Carr, Josie Mendelsohn, and Daniel Carr have collectively played for dances for ninety years. Kevin has played many flavors of dance music – Irish, Old time, Quebecois, Galician, English, Basque,Scottish, French – with Hillbillies from Mars, Tetes de Violon, Wake the Dead, Ospa and Family Carr, and performed across the USA and in Spain and Russia for dances and camps and festivals. Josie Mendelsohn started as a Bluegrass player helping found The Good Old Persons, then moved on to become a accompanist of choice for top Irish musicians visiting the SF Bay area. She is known as the Harmony Queen, and her accompaniment is as delightful as her 2000 watt smile. Daniel Carr decided he might as well turn his prodigious rock’n roll guitar skills to the family traditional style after a visit and musical tour of Galicia, where the Family Carr had their first official gig , and has since become a trad guitarist and mandolinist of the highest order. Family Carr will drive you to dance!

Jean GorrindoJean Gorrindo

After two and a half years away from the microphone and dance floor, Jean Gorrindo returns to spread the joy of contra to dancers near and far. Known for her clear teaching, efficient walk-throughs, and rhythmical calling style, Jean is once again in demand as a caller, and looks forward to calling for your dance soon.
