Juliet Strong House Concert
Jun 28 @ 2:30 am – 5:00 am

Juliet StrongWith a voice “like butter” and an array of original, bluesy melodies, Juliet Strong touches audiences with her depth of sound, unparalleled musicality, and lilting lyrics. Juliet’s high energy fusion of folk and soul, accompanied by rhythmic piano, ukulele, and an eclectic band (Ray Brassfield on stand-up bass and Dave Chiller on percussion), provides a unique, and infectiously uplifting musical experience.

An Oakland, California native, Juliet has a background in Folk, Classical and Jazz piano and voice. Having grown up in the Bay Area and Central Valley folk scene, Juliet has been influenced by traditional Eastern European, Balkan, Turkish, Flamenco, Americana, Irish, Scottish, Indian and Brazilian music and dance. She has spent years absorbing these styles in a traditional folk setting, supplementing with her love of Bebop, Soul, Funk and R&B, and travel to Turkey, Spain, Portugal, and Argentina. The result is a unique sound often likened to that of Norah Jones, Carol King, and Carly Simon.

Jamie Laval and Dan Compton house concert
Feb 21 @ 3:30 am – 6:00 am

Jamie Laval & Dan Compton

Jamie Laval creates rapt audiences with his passionate performances of traditional music of Scotland, Ireland, Brittany and Quebec, blending an ancient art form with stunning virtuosity and contemporary flair that resonates with families, youth, seniors, and devotees of ethnic, jazz, and classical music.

An evening concert experience with Jamie combines toe-tapping melodies, amusing stories, foot percussion, and poetry to create a beautiful atmosphere of the Scottish Highlands.

A native of Seattle currently residing in North Carolina, Jamie initially studied classical violin at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and made his living as a professional symphony musician, recording studio artist, improvising violinist, and contra dance fiddler. But his passion for the haunting sounds of rural Scottish folk music eventually usurped all other preoccupations, and he now devotes himself exclusively to Celtic music.

In 2002 Jamie won the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship and is now hailed as “One of North America’s finest practitioners of traditional Scottish music” (San Jose Mercury News) and “The next Alasdair Fraser” (Scotland Press and Post). His touring career includes over 100 engagements per year throughout the U.S. and Scotland. He has appeared on the NBC Today Show, Dave Matthews’ Some Devil album, and performed for Her Majesty the Queen. Jamie’s newest album, Murmurs and Drones, won the popular vote for “Best World Traditional Album” in the 2012 Independent Music Awards.

Contra: Great Bear Trio w/ George Marshall @ Dunn School, Eugene
Nov 17 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm

Brothers Andrew and Noah Van Norstrand have played for contra dances for more than a decade. Yes, they started touring before graduating high school. They’re both “married old men” in their 20s now, but still enjoy touring with their mom, Kim Yerton, playing for dances from coast to coast. This trio visits us all the way from New York. Dancing to their music will definitely be worth your while!
Caller George Marshall returns to Eugene, bringing these fine musicians.
