Balkan Dance Party With Music by Kef of Eugene @ Gatton Hall / First Congregational Church
Feb 28 @ 8:00 pm – 11:30 pm

KefKef is based in Eugene and has been playing for dancers since 2007. Their music is a sampling of the regional genres found across the Balkans, from Bulgarian wedding music to Serbian brass band, and from 1960s radio-style orchestrations to simple melody/drone-based village music.  Most repertoire comes from the folk tradition, learned from recordings or directly from notable musicians in the Balkan music community.  Each member brings a unique aspect to the music stemming from the diversity of their individual musical experiences and aesthetics.  The band consists of Nisha Calkins-Godfrey on cello, Dan Gibson on guitar , Alex Lowe on trumpet, Sharon Rogers on accordion and vocals, Cody Simmons on trumpet and truba, and Ken Sokolov on percussion.

Bring finger food to share.

This event is sponsored by the Hoolyeh Folkdancers and the Corvallis Folklore Society.

Corvallis Guitar Society Meeting @ Odd Fellows Hall
Mar 2 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Corvallis Guitar Society

The goal of the Corvallis Guitar Society is to act as a catalyst to bring local guitarists out of the woodwork and provide an opportunity to perform and enjoy guitar music in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. The accent here is on participation and we hope people will want to participate in the open stage section also – no piece of music is too short or simple (though there is a five minute limit if we have a full sign-up sheet) and you are guaranteed a warm round of applause for showing us what you can do! We do have a limited number of open stage slots so be sure to sign up early at the front desk on the way in.

Our Mission

To promote classical and related guitar styles by providing a supportive performance environment for people of all ages and ability.

We seek to achieve this through a monthly meeting that provides an opportunity to discuss, listen to, and play solo guitar music including classical, flamenco, finger-style, jazz, as well as classical guitar ensemble styles.

Mar 7 @ 7:30 pm – 11:00 pm

The NettlesThe Nettles

Laura Brophy — fiddle
Kevin Johnsrude — guitars
Michael Proctor — bass
Brian Bucolo — percussion

The Nettles are well-known on the West Coast for their original approach to contra dance music. Playing traditional music from all over the world, The Nettles create a strong rhythmic groove under soaring improvisations. Rhythmic drive and melodic fluidity allow The Nettles to propel contra dances into the stratosphere.wherever they play.

Lynn Ackerson callingLynn Ackerson

Lynn’s huge collection of dances (including over 800 contras) keeps growing as she tries to keep the dancing fresh and interesting even for long-time dancers. This Spring, she’ll be calling at two weekend camps in the Bay Area (Monte Toyon and Balance the Bay), a festival (NEFFA) and various dances in New England, along with various west coast dances. In the summer, she’s on staff at two weeklong camps for the very first time: Folklore week at Mendocino, and American Dance and Music Week at Pinewoods. Even while all of these events are going on, she finds time to attend other dance weekends as “just a dancer” to keep remembering the joy that is found in the dancing and the music.

Beginners lesson starts at 7:30pm (experienced dancers welcome) dance starts at 8:00pm

Each dance is taught.  No partner necessary (it’s traditional to dance each dance with a different partner)
