Semmy Stahlhammer Klezmer Concert and Talk @ Troubadour Music

SemmySemmy Stahlhammer is First Concertmaster at the Stockholm Royal Opera, faculty member at the Stockholm Royal Music College, and appears as solo artist on 20 CD recordings. His CD anthology, Swedish Turn of the Century, was chosen as “Records of the year 2000” by Sweden’s largest newspaper Dagens Nyheter. Semmy also leads the “Stahlhammer Klezmer Classic Ensemble”, an ensemble founded by Semmy’s grandfather around 1910, in Poland.

He will join cellist Isabel Blomme’ and Sergei Teleshev in a performance of kelzmer music (sometimes called “Jewish jazz).  He will also speak about his father, Mischa.  Semmy wrote a memoir, Codename Barber: My Father’s Story, based on Mischa’s reminiscences of the Holocaust and documents that attested to his service.  The Wartime experiences of Mischa Stahlhammer will be the topic of Semmy’s talk when he appears in Corvallis.

Old tales, new tales, music and poetry- join us for a magically eclectic evening of exploring the misty world of dreams. Myth tellers, storytellers, musicians and poets will escort us to the realm of Mother Night and take us sightseeing in The Book of Dreams. The evening is designed for adults and children over 8 years of age.

Esther and Shannin are Komemma Kalapuya and enrolled members of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz. Esther is a life-long storyteller for the Kalapuya and is the chair of a non-profit Kalapuya organization, Komemma Cultural Protection Association, dedicated to researching the Kalapuya, particularly their stories, songs and dances. Esther is also one of the primary storytellers for the Wisdom of the Elders.

Lisa Lynne & Aryeh Frankfurter perform with two Celtic harps, the rare Swedish Nyckelharpa, Ukrainian Bandura, Cittern and more.The audience will hear Traditional instrumental music from Sweden and Ireland as well as heartwarming original compositions. They will present an eclectic blend of music, humor and tales from their adventures as modern day troubadours. They hail from Oregon and tour extensively, both having successful recording and performing careers built from years of street performing and a background as rock musicians. They have performed with some of the biggest names in folk and acoustic music and have sold well over a million albums combined. Audiences are spellbound and enchanted with their unique show of breathtaking music both traditional and original, with wondrous stories and humor entwined.
